Features and use cases

XUsNotes is a quick scratchpad that lives in your browser tab. Everything below is what it does and why people use it.

Why people use it

Jumping between tabs and apps just to jot something down adds friction, and it's easy to end up with stray notes scattered across your Notes app, Google Keep, and half-finished emails. XUsNotes keeps that thought one tab away instead: quick, temporary writing that doesn't deserve a permanent note, thinking something through as you type, or stripping the formatting from text before it goes somewhere else, like pasting a ChatGPT answer into an email. The point is staying productive without leaving the browser tab you're already in.

Formatting

Bold, italic, underline, alignment, bullet lists, numbered lists, and checklists, plus select all, clear formatting, Undo, and Remove empty lines. Pasted text is cleaned before it enters the note while keeping safe basic formatting, links, lists, and intentional spacing. Copy note keeps the note's formatting so it pastes cleanly elsewhere.

Clean up spacing

Remove empty lines consolidates a selected passage, or the whole note when nothing is selected. It leaves populated formatting, lists, links, checklists, and photos intact, and Undo puts the original spacing back.

Titles and photos

Add an optional title when the first line should not name the note. Paste a photo directly into a note; XUsNotes compresses it for local storage and keeps it with exported backups.

Sharing

Share note copies a self-contained link for the current text note. Opening the link imports a private local copy into XUsNotes; there is still no account or cloud note storage.

Fresh note every time

Opening XUsNotes always starts you on a new, empty note with the cursor ready. If you leave a note without any text, photo, or title and move on, it is discarded rather than saved as clutter. Adding a title keeps an otherwise empty note.

Trash

Deleting a note moves it to Trash rather than erasing it right away. Restore it, or empty Trash for good when you're ready. Anything left in Trash is removed automatically after 30 days.

Auto delete

If you want a scratchpad that tidies itself up, turn on "Auto delete after 30 days" in Settings. Starred notes are always kept, even with that setting on.

Export and import

Settings can export every note to a single file, and import that file back on another browser or device. Import merges rather than overwrites, so it's a safe way to move or back up your notes.

Search and sort

The magnifying glass searches titles and body text as you type. The sort icon orders the list by date edited, by name, with starred notes first, or with photo notes first.

Make it comfortable

Choose ruled or plain paper, a font, text size, and accent color. XUsNotes switches automatically between light and dark based on the time of day; a manual switch sticks until the next automatic changeover.

Storage and privacy

Everything is stored locally in your browser. See the About page for how that works and what it means for keeping your notes.
